What You Need to Know about the Pressure Sensor in Your Fuel Tank
Every modern vehicle that comes off of the assembly line contains a fuel tank pressure sensor. This is a matter of safety and a vehicle without it would be considered a safety risk. However, many people have no idea what a pressure sensor is or what it does in terms of the operation of a vehicle.
What does a fuel tank pressure sensor do?
This pressure sensor is designed to measure the amount of pressure that exists in the fuel tank of your vehicle. Any lack of pressure in your fuel tank is an indication that their is a leak in your gas tank. With any luck, you will never come across a situation where you need to think about your pressure sensor. If, however, there is a problem with your fuel tank pressure, then there will be an indicator light in your vehicle, usually around the speedometer that indicates the problem.
What are the fuel tank pressure sensor symptoms?
There are two problems that you can face with your pressure sensor. The first problem isn’t directly related to the sensors. Basically the sensor senses the loss of pressure and and triggers the light in your dash. This light could be your engine light or it could be a light specifically created for this sensor.
The other problem that you might face is a faulty sensor. This is usually only an issue with older cars, but it can appear in late model vehicles. If you’re pressure sensor light comes on in your vehicle, you’ll want to take your vehicle to a mechanic to diagnose. The issue could be a leak in the tank, too much pressure in the tank or a faulty sensor.
Where is the fuel tank pressure sensor located?
The pressure sensor is generally located on top of the fuel pump assembly. The fuel pump is located away from the engine on your car. Some cars may have an access panel that lets you easily access your fuel pump if there is an issue.
Your pressure sensor for your fuel tank is an essential part of your vehicle. With it you can detect leaks early and prevent further damage or issues with your vehicle.
